Acne breakout after steroids

Acne breakouts, especially on the lower 1/2 of the face, can be seen a week or two following both ablative and non-ablative laser resurfacing.  This tends to occur more often in individuals who have a past history of inflammatory (or painful) acne.  Nonetheless, this can happen to anyone.  Treatment for these post- treatment painful acne breakouts can be alleviated with oral antibiotics.  However, it is extremely important to be evaluated by your doctor to ensure that what you have is indeed an acne flare and not a viral or different bacterial infection.

For me, clear skin definitely did not happen overnight. It took awhile for the breakouts and red acne marks to appear and it took awhile for them to go away. I didn't find my acne treatment, go to bed, and wake up the next day with zero acne. It probably took me three months for the big pimples to dwindle and then another three months for the rest of my active acne to heal without getting any new acne. That's probably the most annoying thing - when your skin starts to get better and you think you're making progress and then bam , new pimples, new acne marks, more frustration, etc. After I had no more active acne, I still had scars, pigmentation, and red marks to deal with. It took almost a year for my acne marks to fade.

I noticed a big improvement in my acne when I started making an effort to change my sheets every week and wash my blankets (or at least use a flat/top sheet to sleep with and keep any blankets away from my face so I can just switch the top sheet every week). This was huge for me since I have a really hard to sleeping if I don't have a blanket or something wrapped around me and kind of snuggled up. I mean, the pillowcase and sheets/blankets might not make a huge impact in your case, but I think it would cut down on the likelihood of any bacteria from the acne getting transferred back to your face after the white heads clear up...

ohhh… I’ve actually been dealing with some darker spots on my face, too. Too much sun, but I also heard in one place it could be partially hormonal. Something I am trying to figure out ( probably need to take my own advice and give my liver a helping hand). For now I try to put on coconut oil when I am out in the sun (which apparently has a natural SPF of about 5.. I’d like to infuse some with some herbs that also have natural SPF), sometimes wear a hat.. annnd that’s it. Lol. I’m obviously not trying very hard. I’d really like to figure out what causes it and deal with that. You can actually see it a bit in my picture on the homepage of the site- above my lip. I told my photographer not to photo shop :)
